Правила поведения за столом – Table Manners
В этих коротких стишках автор в шуточной форме знакомит нас с удивительными «правилами» поведения за столом. Детям (да и взрослым!) нравятся такие стихотворения и они с удовольствием заучивают их наизусть, попутно запоминая новые слова.
Однако здесь вы услышите не только интересные английские слова, но и английское звукоподражание или, выражаясь академически, ономатопею.
Table Manners–I

The Goops they lick their fingers(1),
And the Goops they lick their knives;
They spill their broth on the tablecloth(2)—
Oh, they lead disgusting lives(3)!
The Goops they talk while eating,
And loud and fast they chew;
And that is why I'm glad that I
Am not a Goop—are you?
Table Manners–II
The Goops are gluttonous(4) and rude,
They gug and gumble(5) with their food;
They throw their crumbs upon the floor(6),
And at dessert they tease for more;(7)
They will not eat their soup and bread
But like to gobble(8) sweets, instead,
And this is why I oft decline(9),
When I am asked to stay and dine(10)!
